White wild

Arctic char (røya in Norwegian, siven in Czech) is beautiful fish, not so easy to catch. Last few days I dedicated to that...and here are a few pics from that long weekend.
Snow conditions are amazing i in Bymarka, while down in the city spring is almost near (sometimes).

The plan was to visit Esandsjøen in my favourite Sylan area, but before that I stopped at Lynvatnet, a small, but deep lake, with some big røya swimming 25 meters below the ice (there should be also huge trout there, around 5-6kg!). It was almost minus 20 in the morning, but the sun was shining and there was no wind, so amazing conditions...
I have spent several unsuccessful days on Lynvatnet before, with some big fish escaping at the very last moment from the holes. But today was the røya day. I got six fish, two of them were almost 1kg...great experience.
But it was time to move to Sylan. To reach the cabin, snow-scooter is the best option. Thanks to Lars from Fjellguiden Tydal AS for the ride!
Probably my most favourite cabin in Norway. It is located just next to the lake, at Nøstervika.

Weather varied a lot...
Fishing is different here from Lynvatnet. Not so deep (I fished in 1-2 meters), ice is about 80cm (30cm at Lynvatnet), fish are smaller and one active rod is enough (while I use 4-6 rods on Lynvatnet).
3 days passed away and Lars was back...
The view of Esandsjøen during the ride back to Tydal.
Some great skiing on the way back near Tydal...
with compulsory stop at Lynvatnet to get nice dinner...
Last look back at Esandsjøen...next year back!

Stugudalen

Warm weather in Trondheim made me drive to Stugudalen. A plan was to ski and fish, but as it was raining there on Friday evening, I just fished on nearby lakes during the whole weekend.
Frozen snow on the top of the ice...not so nice to move on.

Saturday morning view from my tent...almost like summer beach. I stayed in local caravan camp , that is  situated just next to the lake Stuggusjøen.

Saturday morning was not a good fishing day. I got a few small røya, this burbot and then something took one of my fishing rods into the hole...of course the newest one.

So I moved further on the lake, along the snowscooter route
with Sylan massiv in the background. My very favourite place.

Sunday morning was hard with some wet snow storm

But the sun came back (together with 15-20m/s wind) so I spent a few hours on Mosjøen, getting nothing.

Ice fishing in Sweden

Warm weather period forced me and Emilio to search for frozen lakes further from Trondheim. I found out that lakes around Swedish ski town Åre might be good.
So we decided to spend a weekend on Gevsjön. Saturday was windy and there was a layer of water on the ice, which makes life harder ...
Without local knowledge it is hard to find fish, especially on such big lake. Saturday - zero, Sunday - 2 smaller char. In total 10 hours on the ice and about 100 holes drilled...
However, it was great winter weekend, with nice camping just next to the lake.
and much better condition on Sunday, when the ice was almost well frozen.

Czech February

Early start of another Czech trip on small train station in Skansen (Trondheim), just next to the local harbour

Czech Rep. has the highest density of railway network in the world...

How the transport will be in the future? Postcard from 1900, city of Jesenik...almost no cars!

Little reminder of the north
Visiting some hidden local curative springs. Our friend Asu is mapping and renovating them...

Cross-country skiing in Adrspach with Dr. Love was different from Norway,

especially with some nice refresment.
Almost ski-alpinistic cross-country trip to Krkonose, with a lot of snow

but no visibility at all...

An encounter on the way to Teplice rocks

along an abandoned settlement Zabor
and some great sandstone towers

Winter weekend

Most January snow in Trondheim since 1963, just amazing...
Saturday skiing to Holstdammen was challenging. But the lake was finally frozen and I got 3 big trout there.
Sunday ice-fishing trip started with a tram
to meet Emilio in city centre
and drive north, direction Åsen
to Lynvatnet with its røya. We got many bites and small fish, the only big one escaped
so just a few nice pics were taken back.
Stay tuned for more...
