Påske time

For many days, the sun has been shining... good time for the first spring river fishing on Nidelva (with nice catch of super tasty trout as bonus).

Easter - good time to head to the mountains to enjoy some spring cross-country skiing, grilling, wine, sun bathing, ice-fishing etc.

We spent seven days in a lovely cabin next to Flatningen lake, exploring nearby places (skiing in Rondane and Jotunheimen, fishing in Otta river, ice-fishing on Furusjoen).

Almost summer weather all the time, sometimes challenging to wax (klister needed), truly amazing...never seen so many smiling Norwegians

We reached one top as well (Formokampen, 1424m). It offers great view on Rondane

The top is easy to reach on cross-country skies and the downhill back is perfect.

Catching wind in Lierne

Despite crazy weather forecast (very windy), it was right time to discover another Norwegian national park. And because I was accompanied by Vlado, who loves arctic expeditions and tundra environment, I chose Lierne, remote and "small" park, characterised by its ice aged mountainous landscape. I also hoped in some good ice-fishing in local lakes.

After the night in Brattvoll Gård cabin in Holand, Lars Erik drove us with his snow-scooter 12km into the park.

Sunday was the expedition day - destination Akkavatnet

Cool whole-day trip (ca 15km in total) in sporadically difficult skiing conditions (especially on sport cross-country skies). We "visited" several lakes during the day (Litlflyen, Storflyen - navigation mistake, Holmvatnet, Akkavatnet, Vargtjønnin), however fishing was too challenging because of the strong wind.

"Real men doing real work" - Vlado made this great snow hole on Akkavatnet.

Sunday - half-day trip to Fiskløysvatna (12km in total). Perfect skiing in powder snow along the river-valley.

White wild

Arctic char (røya in Norwegian, siven in Czech) is beautiful fish, not so easy to catch. Last few days I dedicated to that...and here are a few pics from that long weekend.

Snow conditions are amazing i in Bymarka, while down in the city spring is almost near (sometimes).

The plan was to visit Esandsjøen in my favourite Sylan area, but before that I stopped at Lynvatnet, a small, but deep lake, with some big røya swimming 25 meters below the ice (there should be also huge trout there, around 5-6kg!). It was almost minus 20 in the morning, but the sun was shining and there was no wind, so amazing conditions...

I have spent several unsuccessful days on Lynvatnet before, with some big fish escaping at the very last moment from the holes. But today was the røya day. I got six fish, two of them were almost 1kg...great experience.

But it was time to move to Sylan. To reach the cabin, snow-scooter is the best option. Thanks to Lars from Fjellguiden Tydal AS for the ride!

Probably my most favourite cabin in Norway. It is located just next to the lake, at Nøstervika.

Weather varied a lot...

Fishing is different here from Lynvatnet. Not so deep (I fished in 1-2 meters), ice is about 80cm (30cm at Lynvatnet), fish are smaller and one active rod is enough (while I use 4-6 rods on Lynvatnet).

Stugudalen

Warm weather in Trondheim made me drive to Stugudalen. A plan was to ski and fish, but as it was raining there on Friday evening, I just fished on nearby lakes during the whole weekend.

Frozen snow on the top of the ice...not so nice to move on.

Saturday morning was not a good fishing day. I got a few small røya, this burbot and then something took one of my fishing rods into the hole...of course the newest one.

So I moved further on the lake, along the snowscooter route

Sunday morning was hard with some wet snow storm

But the sun came back (together with 15-20m/s wind) so I spent a few hours on Mosjøen, getting nothing.
