PhD Workshop in Fosenkoia

Fast multicultural hiking trip to Fosenkoia with a few PhD collegues. Great time and so close to Trondheim! Thanks to Miss Pancake for organising this event (even she hates nature) and to others for their contributions to that food and game's orgy.

Nidelva

Nidelva is the river that winds through Trondheim. The feeling of the river being all around you might cause some geographical confusion, especially during first days of your stay in the city. Elva is Norwgian word for 'the river', so the name Nidelva translates to "The River Nid". It is possible to catch salmon just in the middle of the city.

Our spanish collegue Adria came with an idea to rent some kayaks and experience the city from different perspective. So we did. Being quit lucky with the weather, we enjoyed a couple of hours of paddling from Lerkendal to Skansen.

Family weekend

One-day trip to Hitra (one of the largest Norwegian islands) is probably not the best idea when days are getting short, as it takes couple of hours to get there...but still it was nice day full of fun and fishing. From road engineering perspective the Hitra tunnel (connecting the island and mainland) is interesting - it was constructed in 1994 and it is 5,6 km long. It reaches a depth of 264m under see level, making it the deepest tunnel in the world when it was built. Hitra is well known fishing (and hunting) destination, so we went there to try our luck. Thanks to Geir we knew about several good locations...

Storstraumen (63.636497, 8.869031). I have never seen sea current like this one. Nice place, but we were not successful here.

Another location - bridge in Knektøya (63.653387, 9.028012). We got the dinner for 6 people in two hours of fishing here. Polocks and one red cod fish. Belma got the largest one.

Imarbu

Together with Ray and Adrian, we spent nice, but short weekend in Imarbu cabin. It is run by DNT (more info here). Nicely located on Aure island, it makes excellent base for fishing or hiking trips. Easy access, perfect view on Litløra (637 m) and Storøra (900 m) mountains together with possibility to use couple of old "goatboats" makes this place really great.

Dovrefjell

Spontanous weekend trip to Dovrefjell national park - what a great idea! International hiking team (Spain, Latvia, Czech rep.) had two main goals: to reach the top of Snøhetta (2286 m) and see muskox. Both were accomplished. Conditions were the best possible ones - no wind, clear sky, temperature around 0-5 degrees. In total 55 km in two days (Kongsvold - Reinheim - Snøhetta - Snøheim - Kongsvold). I must go there back in winter to cross country ski.

Before start, just one picture from friday afternoon, when I went fishing with Albert to Byneset. We got no fish, but we observed porpoises (small whales that look like a dolphin - see here).
